III. James FERGUSON, his son by the first marriage, b. 28
Sep 1672 [Records Supplement, p. 45] inherited Badifurrow. He was bred to the
law and practiced as an advocate before the Court of Session. He sold the
estate of Badifurrow and purchased that of Pitfour in Buchan. He married manned
Ann STEWART by whom he had a son.
IV. James FERGUSON born in 1700. He practiced at the bar
with much success, became Dean of Faculty in 1760, and was raised to the bench
as Lord Pitfour in 1764. He married, Ann daughter of Alexander MURRAY, Lord
Elibank, and had three sons and three daughters. He died 25th June 1777, his
wife in 1793.
V. James FERGUSON the eldest son, was a member of parliament
for the County of Aberdeen from 1790 till his death in 1820. He was unmarried
and was a man of eminent position in his day, and for many years a confidential
friend of William PITT and Henry DUNDAS, Lord Melville.
V. Patrick
FERGUSON, second son. Born 1744. Entered the Army and rose to the rank of
Major. He was the inventor of the first breech load loading rifle used in the
service for which he took out a patent in 1776.
V. George FERGUSON, the youngest son was for many years Governor of
the Island of Tobago and died in 1820.
VI. Admiral George FERGUSON, R.N. married first in 1812
Elizabeth Holcombe, daughter of John WOODHOUSE of Yallon Court, co. Hereford.
They had one daughter. He married second, Elizabeth Jane, eldest daughter of
Clotworthy, first Lord Langford.
VII. George Arthur FERGUSON, born 1835, Captain and
Lieutenant-Colonel Grenadier Guards. He married Nina Maria HOOD. Died 1924 at
residence of son-in-law Colonel BARRINGTON, Blandford, Dorset. [The

VII. Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur George FERGUSON, born 22 Jun
1862, London; m. Janet Norah BAIRD and is Inspector of Constabulatory for
Scotland; d. 14 Feb 1935, survived by widow, three sons and a daughter, said to
be of Cuckfield House, Cuckfield, Sussex and Norton House, Kincardine O'Neil,
Aberdeenshire [The Scotsman 15th February 1935]

VII. Rev. Edwin Augustus FERGUSON born 24 Sep 1864, London; Rector
of Bulwick, Wansford, North Hants, married Madeline MASTER; d. 9 May 1941,
survived by Mrs. Ferguson and three daughters [The Scotsman10th May
