DNA

Tillman Lee FERGUSON was born 1864, DeSoto, TX. A descendant of his has submitted a DNA sample to the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. The results are posted by pedigree at SMGF and neither the donors nor the Haplotype are revealed in the database. The database can, however, be searched by Haplotype and estimates of the number of generations to the Most Recent Common Ancestor or MRCA are computed. The table below shows results of such calculations for the persons in the Scots Modal Halpogroup who descend from John Ferguson/Ann Stubbleson branch.

Number of generations according to SMGF
TMRCA 49641 49278 58045 45585 N50178
Tillman Lee Most Likely 1 9 9 24 1
50% 9 15 15 30 7

It is clear that Tillman is connected to the John Ferguson/Ann Stubbleson branch. Tillman's lineage is best described by Judge Frank Massey in terms of his grandmother:

"... Eliza Jane Ferguson, was the daughter of John Andrew Ferguson, orphaned, with two brothers, at an early age and reared by relatives near Columbia, TN, who married Lucetta Frances Bell (daughter of Andrew Bell who came to TX from near Columbia, TN in 1851. Bell brothers and sisters, all believed to have been residents of Parker Co., TX, were: Andrew, Tillman, Rufe, Joe, Mollie Lovett, Sarah Howard, and Nettie Murphy). Children of John Andrew Ferguson (wife Lucetta) were George Franklin (1849-1888) born in TN; John Andrew (1852-1926) born in TN; Anne Maria, born Dallas Co., TX; Frances Elizabeth (1859-1920); Benjamin Rufus (Bud), born 1858 and lived in Greenville, TX; Elijah Davis, twin of Eliza Jane, b. 1861 and lived at Cedar Hill, Dallas Co., TX; Tillman Lee, b. 1864, and lived in Dallas, TX; and Martha Ellen, b. 1867, who lived at Cedar Hill."

Census Data

Orange Co., VA

Sharon Clark writes: "Ann Stubbleson and John Ferguson also had Samuel Ferguson who married Ann Brown. Ann and Samuel had Ann Ferguson who married Francis Strother in Orange Co., VA, and they also had Benjamin Ferguson. There was no further information on Benjamin Ferguson. Now, back to Tillman Ferguson - his mother was Lucetta Frances Bell, born 22 Feb 1824, Orange Co., VA, according to another database. She was the daughter of Frances Mary Newman and William Brockman Bell, both born in Orange Co., VA. I don't know where Ann Ferguson who married Francis Strother was from, but they married in Orange Co., VA. Since Tillman Ferguson's Bell grandparents were from Orange Co., VA, perhaps his Fergusons were from there, too, and he is a descendant of Ann Stubbleson and John Ferguson and this is how Tillman's DNA matches descendants of James Ferguson. I'm just guessing, but it might be a place to start looking."
