In his home James Oliver, reared a family of ten children, three sons being Confederate soldiers (See Chapter 9, Wars). They were not wealthy, hence gained no especial social prominence; they farmed for a living and were plain everyday people, comfortably circumstanced for that period. James Oliver was noted for his benevolence. In addition to his own children, he sometimes cared for as many as a dozen orphan children in his home at the same time. He did not legally adopt these children, but provided them with a home until they grew up and married, or could find a better home elsewhere. He did not attempt to teach them any social graces.
[James Oliver told by his grandson Cecil Oliver in 1937, White Family Tree, Ancestry.com]

Rebecca A. Forgaye married James Oliver and both are buried in the Poplar Springs Cemetery, Montgomery County
[Beth Austin, Find A Grave]

Owen and Thomas Jefferson Oliver both served in the MS 24th Infantry, Co. K aka Choctaw Rebels, enlisting Aug 1861 at Greensboro, MS. A John N. Furguson enlisted in the Choctaw Rebels April 1862 at Chatanooga, TN
