• Biography of William Wallace Ferguson

  He was born at Clinton, Iowa, March 28, 1876, a son of William and Elizabeth (Lodge) Ferguson, the former a native of Scotland the latter of England. The father was reared in the town of Dunfermlin and came to America immediately after the Civil war and opened a studio at Elgin, Illinois. Subsequently he removed to Clinton, Iowa, where he has for many years been in charge of a flourishing photograph business. He is a member of the Presbyterian church but his wife is an Episcopalian. The paternal grandfather of our subject was a native of Scotland, and the maternal grandfather a railroad man of England. There were five children in the family of William and Elizabeth Ferguson, namely: George, now of Chicago; Ella, who married Frank Dauterman and is now deceased; William Wallace, the subject of this review; Robert Bruce, of Reinbeck, Iowa; and Marion E., of Clinton. • 1865 - Alexander Wardlaw, a wright, was charged with the crime of assault to the effusion of blood, by having, on the turnpike road between Oakley and Saline, on the 17th of November last, twice knocked down William Ferguson, photographer, Comrie Village. The accused pleaded guilty, and Sheriff Bell sentenced him to pay fine of £1, with the alternative 20 days imprisonment [09 December 1865 - Dunfermline Saturday Press - Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland ]

"Susan Kydd died 23rd Dec. 1883 aged 78 years, Elizabeth Ferguson died 15th June 1893 aged 8. Erected by John Ferguson, Boat of Caputh, in memory of his father Alexr. Ferguson who died 15th Jany. 1855 in his 80th year, his mother who died 3rd Augt. 1858 aged 77 years, also his sisters Catherine who died 21st Decr 1836 aged 36 years, Margaret who died 5 Jany, 1823 aged 13 years, Anne who died in Glasgow 20 Octr, 1854 aged 38 years, Margaret who died 13 July 1834 aged 10 years, his niece Maggie who died 7 Sepr. 1865 aged 23 years, his nephew Alexander Kidd who died 3rd Feby. 1868 aged 28 years, the above John Ferguson died 12 October 1874 aged 59 years."
