Fergus(s)on DNA Project Ancestors of Roger Woodruff

My great great grandfather was Thomas FERGUSON who on Oct 9, 1834 married Jane INMAN in Madison Co., Alabama. They had four children the youngest of whom were twins, William Henry and Thomas Henry born in 1840. When the twins were less than 2 years old, Thomas Sr. died. Jane Inman FERGUSON subsequently married George WOODRUFF and the family moved by wagon train to Missouri from Alabama.

Here is an excerpt from a website describing the interesting Inman/Woodruff connections of which these children became a part.

Sometime during the period between 1841 - 2 George B. Woodruff's wife (Sarah Manning Woodruff) died. I do not have a record of her death but she was around 60 (54) years of age. I do have an account of George B's second marriage to Jane Ferguson on June 12, 1843 by Edward H. Vann, J. P. I also have the account of an earlier marriage of Thomas Ferguson and Jane T. Inman on Oct.9, 1834. Mrs. White writes that Jane's first husband died about 1840 and they had four children. They are:

1. 1. Sally Ann Ferguson, This is Sarah of 1850 Census born 1836, m. 1851 to Joseph Rowland, farmer in Gasconade Co. Mo. She died in 1874, 11 children.
2. 2. Thomas H. Ferguson (twin) born 1840 m. Sarah A. Tremmel about 1843. Sarah d. 1882, 8 children. Thomas m. Rhoda Foun about 1865, 4 children.
3. 3. William Ferguson (twin) 1840, m. 1865 Julia Enloe. d. 1892. 8 children.
4. 4. Nancy Ferguson b. about 1837, d. 1862."

William Henry and the other children "took" the name Woodruff though they were never legally adopted by George. As noted William married Julia ENLOE. Their son, my grandfather, was William Benjamin WOODRUFF.
