James Somerville Ferguson b. Apr 1850, Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland son of Walter Ferguson (b. 26 Feb 1813, Kingswell, Ayrshire) and Jane Pettigrew (b. 26 Apr 1811, Shotts, Lanarkshire). James siblings are: Isabella b.c. 1842 (married William Rae), Ivie b.c. 1842, John b.c. 1844, Thomas b.c. 1846, (married Margaret Mc Clean, 1865) Walter b.c. 1848, (married Elizabeth D. Mc Queen, 1872) Agnes b.c. 1858. Their father was a sheppard and his brothers (Thomas and Walter were coal miners). James emirgrated between May 1871-May 1873. James married Helen Downie June 1873, NYC.
