WILLIAM GEORGE FERGUSSON. An old
colonist, in the person of William George Fergusson, passed away on Thursday
morning, at his late residence, Sandy Bay, at the advanced age of 80 years.
Deceased was the youngest son of the late Captain Joshua Fergusson, who arrived
here in the year 1813, and settled at Tinderbox Bay, and grandson of the late
Rev. Joshua Fergusson of Bally Moyer, County Armagh, Ireland, who was
originally from Craigdarroch, Scotland. Deceased was for many years a justice
of the peace of the state, and was universally respected. For some years past,
owing to failing health, he led a retired life (records the "Mercury"), but
always took the deepest interest in the welfare of the state in which he was
for so long a resident. He leaves a widow and large family of grown-up sons and
daughters
