Fergus(s)on DNA Project

Ancestors of James Alexander Gillon-Fergusson aka Fergussons of Isle

This is a branch of the Fergussons of Craigdarroch. The earliest record is that of John Fergusson of Isle who had a charter dated 20 Dec 1580. The current representative of the family is Joseph Peter Don Gillon-Fergusson and his blood line can be traced all the way back to the said John Fergusson. However, the direct paternal line was broken when Robert Fergusson of Isle died unmarried 19 Sept 1768.

Joseph GILLON married into the family in 1808. His son Robert changed his name to Fergusson. Thereafter the paternal line is unbroken. Hence so far as yDNA is concerned, the family's most ancient paternal ancestor is Joseph GILLON.
