According to the oldest members of the family, Thomas Snr called himself a Scot and spoke with a fairly broad Scot's accent. It is thought that he gave misleading info due to an earlier incident in his life and that he was actually born in Scotland despite the 1851 census record.

    Married on 23 March 1838 possibly in Glasgow to Margaret McCaw b.4 June 1815 she was also named McKay

    • Jane Aitchison (1845-1935)
    • Thomas (1849-1936) - Tom Jnr is my Great Grandfather and he married Emily Kemp 5 Feb 1880 and had 7 children.
    • Margaret (1852-1951)
    • Jemima (1855-1916)
    • Mary Ann (1856-1945)
    • The first four were apparently born in Ireland and the second four in Dundee.
