Haplogroup R1b - Clade: Farrelly

We have two particpants whose ancestry traces back to Rossinver, co. Leitrim, Ireland, i.e. Bernard Ferguson whose ancestor Bernard Joseph FERGUSON or FERGUS, was born 1863 at Tullyskarney a son of Terrance Kenneth Ferguson whose ancestor John (?) FERGUSON was born about 1850 at Largydonnell

According to John Laughlin of the R1b1c7 mailing list, the O'Clery Book of Genealogies has only two families listed as descended from Ailill son of Eoghan:

§725 Genelach .H. Forchellaigh [O'Farrelly] There is a family of this name, erenaghs of Drumlane, in Co. Cavan; Also found in the parish of Mullagh in the same county, but it's not certain this is the same family.
§726 Comarba Maedhocc
§727 O Ferghusa Rosa Inbir [O'Fergus] An erenagh family of Rossinver, Co. Leitrim

To see if we could test that ancient genealogy as above, Kevin Farrelly has joined our project as a sponsored benchmark. His ancestor John FARRELLY was born 22 Mar 1840, Drumlane Parish a son of Michael FARRELLY.

Kevin is not a close match to anyone in the project nor to anyone in the FTDNA database by any name. It may be the O'Fergus (later FERGUSON) of Rossinver, co. Leitrim are related to some O'Farrelly of Drumlane, in Co. Cavan but not in this case. According to the World Haplogroup & Haplo-I Subclade Predictor, this FARRELLY Haplotpye is, with a probability of 64%, R1b-Leinster.
