Fergus(s)on DNA Project
Virginia: Robert FERGUSON and Martha
BAUGH |
 |
|
People have been researching this line for years and there must
several hundred trees or pieces thereof in the public domain. Documentation in
the first two or three generations is a bit circumstantial and as a result
different interpretations exist. The tree used here could rightly be called a
"consensus tree" drawn from those sources. It connects three families in the
context of pedigrees as submitted to the project:
- Robert FERGUSON and Martha BAUGH
- John FERGUSON and Mary GILL
- Moses FERGUSON and. Elizabeth LIVELY
The genealogical relationships depicted in the consensus tree
and the associated DNA results are consistent with one another. That is not to
say the genealogy has been proved beyond reasonable doubt but rather it has
been put to a test and passed.

- 1748 Will [Baugh Family
Branches]
- Will of James Fargeson of Dale Parish, Chesterfield County, VA
Lend to my mother Sarah Fargeson all of my estate for life and at her death,
divided between my brother Daniel Fargeson and my two sisters, Mary Baugh and
Sarah Newby. Executors: James Baugh, Levy Newby. Dated 15 April 1784.
Witnesses: King Graves, Jessie Newby, T. Clay.
- Comment: It is generally believe that James and the siblings he
names in this will are children of Daniel Ferguson and Sarah Graves. Given the
will was written in 1784, then Jame's sisters were married by that date. Many
public family trees show a Sarah Ferguson b.~1758 as having married Levy Newby
and a Mary b.~1754 Ferguson who marries James Baugh, e.g.
