Mutation of DYS534= 20 to 19

Mutation Diagram
The diagram above shows that triangulation back from descendants of the Colonel with DYS534=20 suggest that he himself must have had DYS534=20. Similiarly triangualtion back from descendants of the Colonel with DYS534=19 to a common ancestor suggest that Andrew b.~1724 must have had DYS534=19. These conclusions are at odds with one another. One way way to reconcile them is to conclude that DYS534 mutated twice from to 20 to 19, once on the blue path and once on the violet path. One can come up with other scenarios but they all require two mutations ocuring independently of one another.
Alternatively one can conclude the genealogy is in error. The placement of David in the tree is suspect because his genetic distances within the group are noticeably larger than the others. Further he has 6 off modal markers corresponding to mutations at DYS388, DYS449, CDYa, DYS442, DYS534 and DYS444. According to the genealogy there are 6 transmissions of yDNA from father to son along the blue line in the above diagram. A mutation calculator by Ann Turner and available online predicts that, for 6 "transmission events" and a mutation rate of 0.0034, the probability of 6 mutations in a 67 marker is 0.2%.

Haplotypes

The modal haplotype is an approximation to the Colonel's haplotype. The table below shows that some other markers differ from the modal but that only mutation discovered to date that is shared by two or more descendants is that of DYS534.
