'The Rev. Thos. Ferguson, D.D.' writes Rev. H. Sandford, rector
of St. Peter's, 'apparently was curate of St. Peter's till 1763, and was rector
of St. Mary's, Drogheda, from then till his death in 1773.'

- The Rev. William Fergusson, who had been an army chaplain in Scotland
(it is said in the army of Prince Charles Edward in 1745), subsequently went to
Ireland with Bishop Boulter, and became Rector of Drogheda. He was father of

- John Fergusson, merchant, Calcutta, who married Miss Garstin, and had
issue:
- Benjamin
- George, M.D. (near Dublin).

- John, I.C.S. judge
- Thomas, married Miss Dobbin
- Delia, married Major Jones
- Benjamin Fergusson, captain R.N., born 1777, married in 1805,
Elizabeth Tierney, a beauty whose portrait was painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
After leaving the Navy he succeeded his father as a merchant in Calcutta, where
he died. He had seven sons and three daughters:

- George
- John, captain and A.D.C., killed in India
- William
- Thomas Tierney, married a daughter of Sir John Slade, and had
issue:
- Maria Maddene, married Captain Charles Coke, R.N.
- Josias (Indian army)
- Benjamin, a clergyman, who married his cousin Katie Fergusson,
and had one daughter, Katie
- Margaret, married Major Prole
- Ann Maria, married, 1st, Colonel J.L. Mowatt, R.A., and 2nd,
Admiral Lyon, brother to Lord Lyons, Ambassador to France
- Ellen, married Colonel Hugh Boscawen
- Edward Francis Tierney Ferusson, born at Calcutta in 1823, became a
captain in H.M. Indian Navy, and married Susanah Sully, grandaughter and
heiress of John Coleman, who enetered the Royal Navy and was wounded in an
engagement with the French when serving under Lord Rodney. Edrard F.T.
Fergusson when a lieutenant took up Astronomy at greenwich and distinguished
himself under the Astronomer-Royal. He was appointed in charge of the
observatory at Bombay, where he was Judge_Advocate for court-martials. He died
in 1868, and had issue:

- Susanna, married Dr. Andrews of Torquay
- John Coleman
- Winifred, at the covenant Norte Dame, Norwich, England
- Agnes Dorthea, married Captain Vere Olebar
- John Coleman Fergusson (J.P., M. Inst. C.E.), son of Captain Edward
F.T. Fergusson, was born in Bombay in 1854, is resident in Vancouver, B.C., and
is a civil engineer. He married in 1881 Emily Kennett, and has issue:
- Dorthoe Emily, born in New Zealand
- Hugh Boscawen, born in Shanghai, March 1884

constant exercise of maternal and social virtue, and her death made tranquil by
firm confidence in the mercies of her God.|
