Robert FERGUSSON was born in Moniave, near Dumfries, in Scotland, around 1745. By 1772, he was established in the American colonies as an agent, or "factor" in contemporary parlance, of Glassford & Company. At different times, he also represented James Brown & Company and Neil Jamieson & Company. Fergusson owned Nanjemoy, an estate in Charles County, though he lived in Georgetown and later at "Mulberry Grove," also in Charles County, near Port Tobacco. The move to "Mulberry Grove" might have accompanied his marriage to Elizabeth BALLANTINE in 1788. Robert Fergusson died in 1812.

John and his sister Jane appear to be children of either James or Henry based on 1810 census.
There are two marriages recorded for a John FERGUSSON:
1. Elizabeth HAMILTON, Apr 13, 1804 as reported in the 'Baltimore Telegraph', 17 Apr 1804
2. Elizabeth TURNER, 3 Dec 1805 as reported in the 'Baltimore Federal Gazette, 14 Dec 1805
Now consider the will of one Mary TURNER, 1825. In the will she mentions:Son In Law, John FERGUSON
Daughter, Elizabeth FERGUSON
Grandaughter, Mary FERGUSON
Grand Children Zepheniah TURNER and Mary E TURNER.
John FERGUSSON and Elizabeth had a daughter named Mary and they had a son named Zepheniah. The name Zepheniah is so unusual you have to believe that since it runs in the TURNER family, Zepheniah FERGUSSON's mother must have been Elizabeth TURNER. One of the witnesses to the will is Bennet HAMILTON.
John Beale TURNER5 died at his residence near Bryantown on Staurday morning 30th instant (Jan 30 1858), 28 years old.; here we see the name Beal also occurs in the TURNER family as in John Beal FERGUSSON.
Goal: find a living FERGUSON of this line whom we can recruit to the project.
