"The Kilkerran Fergussons first appear on record in the 15th century. John Fergusson of Kilkerran, recorded in 1464, was probably the son of Duncan, son of Colin, dominus de Kylkerane, on record in 1439. They may have descended from a John, son of Fergus who was one of the witnesses to a charter by Edward Bruce signed at Turnberry shortly after Bannockburn."
[Sir James Fergusson1, 1956]
The DNA of this family falls with Haplogroup I1a (M253+)
Mr. David McGill, mentioned in the text as curate of Greyabbey, was wither a son or nephew of David McGill, lord advocate and judge. He was most probably his son. He is evidently the person named in the will of Symon Ferguson of Kilkerran, who died in 1591, and who appears to have been a family connexion.
[The Montgomery Manuscripts: (1603-1706)]
sprung from the house of Kilkerran
