The Ferguson's originally came from Kilkerran, Ayrshire, Scotland: in 1700 a number of the family moved to Londonderry, Ireland. Mary Kerr's parents were Rev. Kerr and Mary Benbow d/o Admiral Benbow of Thropshire, England.

• May 7 1842 d. 30th ult., Londonderry, Upham parish (Kings Co.), Matthew FERGUSON, age 36, native of Newtonlimavady, County Londonderry, Ireland. Emigrated here in 1818.
• September 17, 1867 Morning Telegraph - m. Hammond (Kings Co.) 12th inst., by Rev. S.J. Hanford, Mathew FERGUSON / Annie MARCHBANKS youngest d/o Adam MARCHBANKS, above place.
• October 21 1867, Morning News - On Thursday night, Benbow FERGUSON an old well known resident of (St. John) city came to his death by drowning on the beach to the North East of the Barracks. His body was discovered next morn. by James VANHORNE and taken to his residence Queen Square. The coroner held an inquest Friday afternoon. - 'Freeman'

• October 13, 1885 The Daily Sun - d. 12th inst., Saint John, Wm DeVeber FERGUSON, age 28, s/o John A. FERGUSON and Sarah J. FERGUSON, Hammond (Kings Co.) The remains will be taken from Oddfellow's Hall to the train for Sussex Tuesday morn. Funeral from his father's residence Wenesday 2 p.m.
• February 20 1895 Dispatch - Mrs. FERGUSON, widow of Benbow FERGUSON of St. John, died at the residence of her son-in-law, Richard BULL, Wednesday eve. last. The deceased was born in Londonderry, Ireland in March 1805 and would therefore have been 90 years old next month. She came to this country when ten years old and has lived in St. John since then until the past few years, which she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Richard Bull. Her family consisted of eight children, five sons and three daughters. Her three daughters and two of her sons survive her. Her body was taken to St. John for interment.
