FERGUS(S)ON DNA PROJECT Benchmark Pedigrees & Solicitation of Same

When we thought most Fergus(s)on originated with but a few founders, as implied in most surname books, it made sense to focus on the historically prominent Fergu(s)son for they had the best genealogies. Now that we know there are many Fergus(s)on founders a benchmark pedigree has been redefined to be any Fergus(s)on lineage that can be traced back to a specific locale, i.e. county, parish or shire, in the UK prior to the advent of civil records for that locale. The general fund was established to sponsor participants who hold such a pedigree and who would have been unlikely to join the project of their own accord. Our purpose in providing benchmarks is to provide clues to participants in the "colonies" who know only that their ancestor originated in the UK but not in which county, shire or parish.

This page tracks Family History Societies which have been contacted asking if they can put us in contact with a Fergus(s)on who would be willing to serve as a benchmark.
